More like a stubborn little puppy, you constantly have to take care of your hair. Leave it unattended for a few days, and you can’t imagine the mess you will have to sort out later. Whether it is summer or winter, a happy or a stressful day at work, your hair needs constant care and attention.

Regardless of whether your hair has been damaged by the harsh weather, hair styling, cosmetic products, or stress, frizzy-dull hair and breakage is something that practically every one of us goes through.

Moreover, poor diet and inadequate intake of fluids garnish the otherwise grim condition of one’s hair. Fenugreek Hair Mask

Mostly used in a variety of culinary, fenugreek is also known for its myriad health benefits. Fenugreek is a rich source of iron and protein, the two important nutrients responsible for hair growth.

Ingredients required:

  1. 1 cup Fenugreek seeds
  2. 3 tbsp Extra virgin or cold-pressed coconut oil
  3. ½ cup Pure aloevera gel
  4. ½ cup Plain yogurt

Method:

  • Soak fenugreek overnight in cold water.
  • Grind it to a fine paste the next morning. Add the 1/2 cup aloe vera extract and coconut oil and put it in the blender and mix well. I use Honey and Spice’s pure cold-pressed aloe vera gel.
  • Beat ½ cup yogurt until no lumps are there.
  • Now mix well with the fenugreek and aloe vera mixture until all the ingredients are fully incorporated. You can also beat the yogurt and pour it into the blender for a final mix.
  • Apply from your roots to tip. Make sure to apply sufficiently on the scalp.
  • Wash off with normal water after an hour.
  • Apply shampoo the next day.

Henna Hair Mask

Henna is known as an elixir for one’s hair. Even ancient Ayurveda has documented pages of the effectiveness of henna. Aside from providing a beautiful tint to one’s hair, henna also conditions one’s hair and makes them soft and smooth.

Ingredients required:

  1. 1 packet Henna (or as per the length of your hair)
  2. 2-3 Eggs
  3. 1 cup Yogurt
  4. 2-3 tbsp Castor oil

Method:

  • Mix the required quantity of henna powder with warm water in a large bowl and leave it overnight. Don’t make the concoction too slurry as you will have to add the other ingredients.
  • Beat the yogurt until smooth. Beat 2-3 eggs and mix with the yogurt.
  • Add 2-3 tbsp of castor oil into the mixture and mix well.
  • Now pour all the ingredients into the henna mixture and mix well. Check that no lumps are formed.
  • Apply all over your hair and let it sit for 1-3 hours. If you want a rich brown tint, keep it for 3 hours, otherwise, an hour is enough.
  • Wash off with normal water.
  • You can either wash off your hair using a mild shampoo or wash off with normal water and go for an overnight oil massage and then shampoo, as usual, the next morning.

Fenugreek and Black Seed Mask

Black seed or nigella or black cumin is known for its multiple health benefits. It helps aid conditions ranging from asthma, inflammation, cholesterol, eczema, acne, psoriasis, and so forth. The active compound present in black seed called thymoquinone has shown potential results in protecting the body from inflammation and other related issues. An anti-oxidant, it also helps address problems of the scalp like dandruff and promotes hair growth.

Ingredients required:

  • ½ cup Fenugreek seeds
  • ½ cup Black or nigella seeds
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil
  • ½ cup Fresh aloe vera gel
  • ½ cup Yogurt

Method:

  1. Grind fenugreek and nigella seeds to a fine powder. Now, transfer the powder into a large mixing bowl.
  2. In another bowl, beat the yogurt to a smooth texture and add the extracted aloe vera gel and coconut oil and mix well.
  3. Now, pour the mixture into the powder and mix until it is lump-free and smooth.
  4. Apply this mixture onto your scalp and hair and leave it on for an hour or two.
  5. Wash off and shampoo as usual.

For best results, stick to any of these for a few months. You can try this once a week to start noticing a difference. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, it is advisable to perform a patch test before use.

The essential skincare routine for glowing skin

Every woman dream of impeccable, glowing, and beautiful skin. But following a regular skincare routine might sound frantic for some. The eventful schedules and demanding lifestyle often push one to miss out on their skincare routine at times. And because of such improper cleansing, dust particles, dirt, and makeup that remain trapped, further lead to buildups, resulting in acne, dry, rough, and dull skin.

However, the problem becomes severe during summertime. With more accumulation of dirt and oil underneath our skin, acne breakouts and rashes are likely to crop up.

Subsequently, I tried intervening in why people tend to skip a skincare regime. And surprisingly, these are some of the reasons that I received:

  1. They are too lazy for a skincare routine
  2. They don’t have time
  3. They never felt the need to invest time in one
  4. Skincare products are expensive
  5. Harmful chemicals present in the cosmetics may damage their skin more
Considering these facts here’s an easy and effective skincare routine that’s not just affordable but also effective for treating and healing skin damages:

Step 1: Clean the pores

Use a mild cleanser to clean up the pores. A gentle cream cleanser or oil-based cleanser works well, however, you can also use a chemical-free face wash. Splash some water on your face and take the required amount of face wash onto your palm. Apply on your face and neck and lather well. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

Step 2: Scrub those dead cells out

Exfoliation is essential to scrape those dead flaky cells, deeply penetrated dirt, dust, and other pollutants that cause skin damage. Being an ardent fan of organic skincare essentials, I always check for the ingredients before making a purchase. This Hawaiian Mud and Seaweed Scrub from Myra Veda is one such product I can totally rely on when it comes to skincare.

Direction to use: Dampen your face and squeeze out the required amount of scrub. Massage gently in a circular motion, using upward strokes at times. You can also leave it on for 2-15 minutes as a mask (this is entirely optional). Dab a soft cotton cloth in warm water and rinse off gradually.

Step 3: A clay pack to heal

I believe in clay masks more than any other masks (although I try all of them). Mainly because I was introduced to clay and sandalwood packs during my teenage years and those worked wonders on my acne issues then. However, it’s been a long I haven’t come across a good clay pack. But this Amazonian Clay from Egypt seemed like a good investment.

Direction to use: Scoop out 2-3 spoons of Myra Veda Amazonian Clay from Egypt on a glass bowl. Mix it with Myra Veda Pure Rose Water to form a smooth paste. You can also use it with yogurt, milk, honey, or other ingredients. Apply all over your neck and face. Let it dry for 5-10 minutes and rinse off. Pat dry using a soft towel.

Step 4: Tone up the pores

A toner is a must-have in a skincare routine. Wondering why? It is because once you wash your face or clean up the pores, the pH balance of the skin shudder. To restore the balance, it is imperative to use a good toner right after cleaning the face.

For toner, I always prefer rose water and Myra Veda’s Pure Rose Water has been my favorite. Don’t let summer skin rashes pull you down. This easy home remedy will help you glow once again!

The days of juicy mangoes and watermelon mojitos are here. Also, the days of acne breakouts, rashes, tan, and burns too are here. Summer and skin have always been in a constant cold war. No wonder how tough you hold on to a summer skincare routine, an inevitable ugly-looking pimple will pop out to smirk at you. 

For the ones with oily skin, oh! I understand the pain completely. The hot and humid days with less clothes and least skincare products not just take a toll on our skin but also to our pockets. Investing on high SPF sunscreens to a range of cosmetic products, with a only to aggravate the conditions.

While summer has changed a bit since last year with frequent lockdowns, curfews, work from home, and limited exposure to outdoors, its impact on our skin too has altered. I never had so much issues with my summer skin. But after days of staying indoors and barely exposing myself to the sun and the open air, my skin began to sense the outside environment alien. Even for few hours if I am out in the heat these days, I develop rashes and acne breakouts on my face. And of course, how can I miss out those adamant prickly heat that refuses to go away!

Finally, after trying different summer skincare products and tested ways to handle distressing summer skin, I have come up with a remedy that might work wonders on your problems too. 

Shoo those prickly problems with this summer rashes home remedy

Rashes that are prickly, itchy, and with a burning sensation are quite common during summer. A heat rash occurs mainly due to sweat pores that are blocked by dirt, creams, or other particles. However, for some, rashes don’t need an invitation from blocked pores. They can just arrive at any time. Sensitive skin however is more prone to catch rashes.

If you notice any prickly rashes on your skin, this easy-peasy home remedy will help soothe your skin from irritation and provide a cooling effect.

Things you will need:

  1. Pure aloe vera gel – Fresh or store-bought (I use Honey and Spice’s Pure aloe vera gel for all my aloe vera requirements)
  2. Peppermint essential oil
  3. Lavender essential oil

Method: 

  • If you are using store-bought aloe vera gel, scoop out the required portion of the gel in a glass bowl. Or you can scrape out the gel from a leaf. 
  • Add 2-3 drops of peppermint and lavender essential oil. 
  • Mix well and put it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. 
  • Clean the affected areas and apply all over. 
  • Massage gently for 1-2 minutes.
  • For best results, use this 3-4 times a day. 

You can directly apply aloe vera gel but adding the essential oils provide a calming effect to the affected areas and help to heal faster. I have tried applying aloe gel from the plant directly on the skin after cooling for some time. It did help in minimizing the effect but took me a week time to repair my skin. On the other hand, applying with the essential oils did the job faster, within 2-3 days. However, this may vary from skin to skin.

You can use tea tree oil as an alternative. This essential oil also has skin calming properties.

As the mercury rises, we tend to deplete more electrolytes and water from our body. Thus, it becomes imperative to drink more water and keep ourselves hydrated and less fatigued. Eating nutrient-rich foods and juicy fruits like watermelon, oranges, berries, sweet lime, pomegranate, etc. during summer is another way to keep the skin healthy and glowing.

A soft and fluffy date and coffee cake recipe

I can never get enough of cakes. Indeed, baking has proved as the most therapeutic means to manage my anxious mind. Amid all others, baking a date cake and a banana cake seemed stress-free for me; given the fact that I am left with minimal utensils to wash and the cakes turn delectable and fluffy. However, the road to baking a moist and soft old-fashioned healthy date cake consist of not much hard work. Just some great quality dates and brown sugar and the win is all yours.

Ever since I developed this cherished bond with baking aromatic cakes, there’s no stopping. In fact, all the eggs and fruits that my husband brings would go into my cakes or tarts. I love how my fervent desire for cooking (or baking) is molding so perfectly each day. From blazing a cake to ashes to baking that perfectly soft and spongy cake, I have got my hands on precision.

How temperature or material of the vessel affect while baking

And this date cake is the result of weeks of experimenting with temperatures, ingredients, vessels, and techniques. In case of baking, it is imperative to know that every oven has different features and the baking differs from an aluminum to a silicon vessel. So, you need to experiment with your vessels and temperatures of your oven before settling for a perfect spongy cake.

Unlike my other gooey or sticky date cakes, I decided to keep this a bit light, fluffy, and moist at the same time.

Date cake baking temperature may vary depending upon factors like vessels used, materials or size of the cake, etc. For this date cake, I used a rectangular silicon mold and an OTG to bake. I kept the temperature at 185 degrees Celsius for less than 20 minutes.

Here’s the recipe on how to make a perfect date cake, or a date and coffee cake:
  1. Pick a fistful of good quality dates and remove the seeds.
  2. Boil half a glass of water.
  3. Put the dates in the boiling water, stir in between intervals.
  4. Once the water soaks to half, leaving a mushy bottom, add a tablespoon of instant coffee powder. 
  5. Stir for about two minutes and remove the pan. 
  6. Once cooled, transfer to a food processor and reduce it to a smooth paste. You can also use a few tablespoons of milk if the blend seems too dry. 
  7. The date paste is ready.

A Date and Coffee Cake Recipe

This is not a sticky date cake but a fluffy and moist date and coffee cake

Materials

For the mush

  • 10 Dates Good Quality
  • 1 tbsp Coffee powder Instant coffee
  • ½ Cup Water

The Date Cake

  • 1 Cup All purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
  • 2 Eggs
  • ½ Cup Sugar White and brown
  • 1 Tsp Butter
  • 3 Tbsp Refined oil
  • 1 Tsp Baking powder
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla essence
  • 1 Pinch Baking soda
  • 1 Pinch Salt

Instructions

  • Add the flour, baking powder, baking soda, coco powder, and salt in a bowl and seive the dry ingredients once or twice.
  • In another bowl, break 2 eggs and add the granulated sugar and date mush.
  • Using a hand mixer, beat the concoction for about 3-5 minutes, until it turns smooth.
  • Gradually add the the vanilla essence, refined oil, and butter and beat again.
  • Once all the ingredients are incorporated, add the dry ingredients in batches and beat using the electric whisk.
  • Mix the ingredients well using a spatula.
  • Transfer into a well-greased mold.
  • Bake into a pre-heated oven for 20-25 minutes.
  • Insert a skewer to check your cake.
  • Ta-dah!

For a fluffy date cake, make sure your mixture is not too concentrated or neither too runny. It has to be a smooth batter that doesn’t stick on your spatula in a “never-leaving” way.

Also, for mixing the wet ingredients, I used the same pan that I used for boiling the dates. Saved my time washing another utensil. 😉

The luxuriance of pastry cream is heavenly. The amazing blend of egg yolks, corn starch, milk, cream, and sweetness is just the right snack for your craves. While there lies a number of tricks and tips to make a really succulent tart, the path doesn’t seem too crammed with sweat. Just the right amount of ingredients are important to rule the recipe. Nevertheless, to make this beetroot, mango, chocolate, and cream cheese tart recipe, it was one incredible experience. 

At one moment, I would plan to mix the mango and cream cheese, while on the other, I would wonder how a combination of chocolate and mango would taste like.

But you will gladly love this creamy fruit tart recipe- whether for munching or to round up as a dinner dessert.

Making an authentic French Tart Recipe 

A tart is usually a baked recipe, consisting of a crumbly firm pastry shell with a sweet, savory, or fruity base. Nonetheless, for a French fruit tart recipe, the 4 essential ingredients include:

  • A sweet pastry crust
  • The vanilla pastry cream filling
  • Fresh fruits
  • A tart glaze

Seemingly, most French tart recipes call for berries and fruits on top. I preferred to play the fruit inside. 

Drawing everything from scratch is arduous and time-consuming, but it is worth the results. However, for an impatient person like me, things can often spill over. Luckily, I rescued the dessert from falling apart.

I was literally out of my mind (and body) when all at once, I decided to bake this tart. Not out of a great mood but out of frustration.

I set the gelatin to bloom and began curdling the milk. It was the creamiest of cream cheese that I had ever tasted. Even my chocolate ganache was ready. Sigh!

I was almost ready with my fillings when I realized I hadn’t even set the pastry dough.

I opened the cupboard to reach for the Marie biscuit packet. And wow! My biscuit tart shell turned out as an absolute complement to the incredible layers of sweetness.

Making of the crust and filling

This tart cake is the summary of a rich, creamy, chocolaty, and nutty taste at one bite. Like a classic French chocolate tart, it has the lusciousness of chocolate, graced by the tanginess of mango, and at the same time, the sublime flavor and silkiness of cream cheese. Just the right recipe to appease all moods.

For the tart base (or shortcrust), I used a packet of Marie biscuits. You can use any biscuits.

For the filling, I used three layers of cream cheese, mango, and beetroot and white chocolate base. This fresh fruit tart is the ultimate beauty you will ever make.

Materials

For the tart crust/ shell

  • 1 packet Marie Biscuit You can opt for coconut or digestive biscuits also
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 3-4 tbsp Butter
  • 3 tbsp Sugar

For the filling

  • 1 cup Cream cheese
  • 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  • 2-3 Ripe Mangoes I took the small variety of mangoes
  • 5 grams White chocolate
  • 1 Beetroot
  • 2 tbsp Gelatin
  • 2 tbsp Melted butter
  • 1 tsp Corn starch

Instructions

  • Grind the biscuits to a fine powder 
  • Add the egg and the melted butter. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add the granulated sugar and mix again
  • Spread into a tart mould and press the ends firmly.
  • Bake at 180 degrees for 20 minutes
  • Remove from the oven and brush the shell with egg wash
  • Put it back in the oven for another five minutes

Layer 1- Cream Cheese Filling

  • Add the cream cheese, vanilla essence, and sugar in a bowl and beat it until the sugar completely dissolves with the cheese. Keep aside.

Layer 2- Mango Filling

  • For the mango pastry cream, add the mango cubes into a blender and make a fine smooth pulp.

Layer 3- Beetroot and white chocolate filling

  • Add 5 tbsp water to the 2 tbsp gelatin. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
  • Grind or grate the beetroot and extract the juice using a sieve. Keep in a separate bowl.
  • Add a tsp of corn starch to half a cup of water, and stir. 
  • On medium heat, pour the mixture into a pan.
  • Now pour the bloomed gelatin into the corn starch mixture.
  • Add the vanilla and the beetroot extract. Bring it to boil. Sieve and keep aside. 
  • In another pan, heat water and place the white chocolate and butter on a glass bowl to melt.
  • Now fold the melted chocolate into beetroot extract.

For the assembly

  • Add the cream cheese layer in the cooled tart mold. Spread it evenly using a spatula. Bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees.
  • Pour the second layer of mango pulp once the first filling cools. Let it set for five minutes in the fridge.
  • Now add the beetroot and chocolate layer. 
  • Refrigerate for 4-5 hours.

A good balance of a mango cheesecake and a French chocolate tart, this fruit tart contis is an amazing pick for all your dessert choices.
