While there lies a number of tricks and tips to make a really succulent tart, the path doesn’t seem too crammed with sweat. Just the right amount of ingredients are important to rule the recipe. Nevertheless, to make this beetroot, mango, chocolate, and cream cheese tart recipe, it was one incredible experience.

At one moment, I would plan to mix the mango and cream cheese, while on the other, I would wonder how a combination of chocolate and mango would taste like.

Making an authentic French Tart Recipe

A tart is usually a baked recipe, consisting of a crumbly firm pastry shell with a sweet, savory, or fruity base. Nonetheless, for a French fruit tart recipe, the 4 essential ingredients include:

  • A sweet pastry crust
  • The vanilla pastry cream filling
  • Fresh fruits
  • A tart glaze

Seemingly, most French tart recipes call for berries and fruits on top. I preferred to play the fruit inside.

Drawing everything from scratch is arduous and time-consuming, but it is worth the results. However, for an impatient person like me, things can often spill over. Luckily, I rescued the dessert from falling apart.

I was literally out of my mind (and body) when all at once, I decided to bake this tart. Not out of a great mood but out of frustration.

I set the gelatin to bloom and began curdling the milk. It was the creamiest of cream cheese that I had ever tasted. Even my chocolate ganache was ready. Sigh!

I was almost ready with my fillings when I realized I hadn’t even set the pastry dough.

I opened the cupboard to reach for the Marie biscuit packet. And wow! My biscuit tart shell turned out as an absolute complement to the incredible layers of sweetness.

Making of the crust and filling

This tart cake is the summary of a rich, creamy, chocolaty, and nutty taste at one bite. Like a classic French chocolate tart, it has the lusciousness of chocolate, graced by the tanginess of mango, and at the same time, the sublime flavor and silkiness of cream cheese. Just the right recipe to appease all moods.

For the tart base (or shortcrust), I used a packet of Marie biscuits. You can use any biscuits.

For the filling, I used three layers of cream cheese, mango, and beetroot and white chocolate base. This fresh fruit tart is the ultimate beauty you will ever make.

Rebuilding the post COVID-19 economy- An analysis

The global shutdown has impacted numerous countries, countless industries, communities, economies, and people, leading toward a slow paced system. Due to this pandemic, it is quite evident that the economic damage will be far more challenging and devastating for most countries and rebuilding the post COVID-19 economy is no easy play. However, the hardest hit will be on countries like Turkey, India, South Korea, or Iran where the public health issues are a major concern.

The corona crisis has exposed some major inline flaws of the international structure. From having the type of job, to the community people live in, or the country they reside, the pandemic has affected everyone differently.

One of the biggest challenges the lockdown has endured is massive unemployment, which subsequently means reduced demand, supply, and consumption, thereby leading to slash in production and investment and a shrunk economy. Released data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics highlighted that the unemployment rate has skyrocketed to 14.7 percent last month – the highest since the Great Depression.

Navigating the economic fallout- job loss, mental health condition, and more

There is no clear picture of a “normal life” in the horizon or how a “new normal” life will look like. Substantial job loss, looming mental health issues, inflated assets, healthcare deficiencies, are already murking the world with its ugly strain. With all these issues that every country is grappling with, analyzing the economic fallout caused by the pandemic will be massive and prolonged.

Aside this, the world economy is predicted to lose about $8.5 trillion output in the next two years. The pandemic is likely to expunge almost all gains of the previous four years, a study highlighted. This will subsequently push millions of people to extreme poverty by the end of 2020. A scientific report underlined that the disease could last for 18-24 months and will keep rolling until 60-70 percent of the human population is immune to the virus. This forecast may sound bleak but the only hope that exists amid this crisis is community resiliency to rebuild the neighborhoods, cities, and then the country at large.

Rebuilding the post COVID-19 economy through sustainability

Fancy promises or believing in magic will not help in reviving the losses, rather, a sharp, flawless, and a long-term plan will diffuse the challenges and hurdles standing on the forefront.

Needless to mention, the post covid world will be distinct from the present setting. The “new normal” should focus primarily on building a better backbone to support such startling occurrences. A fundamental theme that we need to learn is to prepare ourselves physically, economically, and mentally to confront such a crisis.

This pandemic is not the last one to affect humankind. There are several warning signs impending unprecedented economic disasters such as climate change, future virus outbreaks, biological warfare, and so forth.

While an overwhelming recession is evident in most countries, it is also imperative to note that advanced sustainable goals and resilient societies are crucial to impede future catastrophe. To rebuild the lost economy, government and policy makers should build progressive economies, one that is clear, strong, and contains a long term sustainable plan. The strategy should focus on improving the past track records.

Focusing on the 2030 agenda for sustainable development can turn out to be a great action plan to strengthen universal prosperity and reduce extreme poverty. Besides, countries should strengthen the public health system, i.e., more affordable and accessible basic public health along with investment in education and skill development for the driving forces of the country.

Do you have a sustainable plan to revive the crisis? Let me know in the comments below.

Easy way to make watermelon halwa

The arrival of Bihu always fascinates me. Likely because I love seeing my mother prepare 100s of til pitha (a kind of traditional rice cake made with sesame and sugar), tel pitha (a traditional rice cake), and narikol laru (coconut balls). I would wait for her until late midnight, watch her prepare the delicacies wholeheartedly. I was always attracted to her way of preparing the coconut balls. She teaches me how delicately I must handle the preparation, a slight mistake and the balls would not take its desired shape. I would listen and watch her patiently, as she molds the balls. And apparently, I have applied a similar method while making this pudding. This is easy to make dessert recipe and consumes less time to prepare.

While I use to throw away the rind of watermelon every time, I choose to prepare something out of the inutile pieces (these were supposed to go right into the bin). After grinding to a good paste, I had decided to cook it the way my mother used to prepare the coconut balls, i.e., pour the mush directly to the pan and stir until the water dries up. After that, you can gradually add the other ingredients.

Here, I have also used some leftover red mesh of the watermelon that I had used for juice. You can skip that completely. Subsequently, I also made a few watermelon rind balls the next day. For making that, I applied a similar method of evaporating the excess water and adding a cup of roasted semolina. The rest of the steps remains the same apart from adding the liquid milk.

5 Places To Visit in Vancouver, Right After Lockdown

Vancouver is such a beautiful place – the perfect mix of a busy, metropolis city as well as a scenic place of nature. I’ve lived in Vancouver my whole life, and from time to time, I’m still in awe of the gorgeous sights I stumble upon.

Whether you’re looking for some places to explore in your own city, or are traveling by, here are five places you need to visit in Vancouver, BC after quarantine – from parks to cute shops and more!

Places to visit in Vancouver, Vancouver, travel photos, skyscrapers of Vancouver, view of Vancouver

    Cute Cafes

Whether you need a nice, calming place to work or a creative background for a photoshoot, these following cafes are absolutely great! I rated each workspace out of five and pricing, with $ being the lowest to $$$ as most expensive.

    Vancouver, cafes in Vancouver
Mr. Mustache Tea and Dessert – 110-6125 Sussex Ave, Burnaby

Workspace: 5/5 – usually a tranquil space, however, it can get crowded on weekends! Bright, aesthetic, and roomy.

Prices: $$ – medium pricing, however, in my opinion, the design in the cakes and the workspace is worth the pricing. This cafe has cute sweets – such as cakes in the shapes of bees and various flavors of drinks – from bubble tea to coffees.

    La Foret – 6848 Jubilee Ave, Burnaby, V5J 4B3

Workspace: ⅗ – although very spacey, it is a trendy space so it’s always quite busy. It’s not the best workspace as it’s quite loud, but if you don’t mind putting in headphones or if you can work in a loud space, then you’re all set.

Prices: $$$ – quite pricey, but they have very unique food items (such as squid ink waffle, and tiramisu cake) and their plates are very filling!

Laurence and Chico Cafe833 Bute St, Vancouver, V6E 3Y4

Workspace: ⅘ – It’s a very cool and bizarre place – you would think that you’ve stepped into a whole new world. Everything from the furniture to the drinks, it all brings an otherworldly vibe. It is quite busy, though, and to get good seating, you may have to make reservations.

Prices: $$ – medium pricing, a great place to grab coffee with a friend!

    Nature Parks

Are you someone who’s into a good hike topped off with calm and relaxing scenery? Here are some great places to check out!

Vancouver, cafes in Vancouver, Travel in Vancouver, Parks in Vancouver,
    Deep Cove – Vancouver

This is a challenging hike with tons of natural stairs, which will get your legs burning (in a good way, of course)! At the top, the view is incredible, perched on a rock with mountains and the lakes below. It truly feels like you’re on top of the world.

    Watershed Park – Delta

This is a very calming stroll through the woods, and the park is pretty big so you can take a long hike. There’s a bright sunny field in the middle of the park, it’s great for basking in the sun or letting your pet run free.

    Central Park – Burnaby:

This is a super family-friendly place – a well-constructed hike in the forest with a lake in the middle! There used to be tons of little critters and animals in the forest, even today, you can glimpse tons of squirrels and chipmunks!

If you’re someone who enjoys browsing through stores, here are some big malls throughout the greater Vancouver area.

Vancouver, cafes in Vancouver, Places to visit in Vancouver, shop in Vancouver, Malls in Vancouver
    • Metrotown – Burnaby
    • Guildford Mall – Surrey
    • Richmond Center – Richmond
    • Pacific Center – Downtown
    • New Westminster Skytrain Station Area – tons of stores to browse, one after the next – outfit stores, thrift stores, local businesses, etc.

    Places To Eat

Here are some yummy eats, rated with price and taste.

Vancouver, cafes in Vancouver, places to eat in Vancouver
    Jinya Ramen (541 Robson St, Vancouver, V6B 1A6)- $$$

Pricey but very delicious, often has a long wait time so make sure you make some reservations in advance!

    Tako (601 Expo Blvd, Vancouver, V6B 0J5) – $

Mexican and Korean food mix, very unique but amazing taste. They offer tacos, burritos, bibimbop bowls as well as poutines.

    Sushi & Roll (10241 King George Blvd, Surrey, BC V3T 2W6) – $

great prices for how much food is served. for example, a big bowl of ramen is only around $6-7, which is insane as most ramen places are $10-20!

    Authentic and local places

If you love browsing local stores and little businesses that support greater causes, here are some places to check out.

Vancouver, cafes in Vancouver, authentic and local places in Vancouver
    New West Riverside Market

Individual shop owners such as jewelry, skincare, and gelato. Also, Angelina’s Dutch Corner (810 Quayside Drive Unit 122, V3M 6B9) is a great place to stop by for brunch! Their waffles and crepes are so delicious and filling.

    Cat cafe

(2035-88 Pender St W International Village Mall, Vancouver V6B 6N9) – all the cats can be adopted, you can make a $10 reservation for one hour to play with the cats and purchase merch! I paid a visit there with my friend a while back, the cats were adorable and the building is very high up and open. I loved the experience!

    Vancouver, cafes in Vancouver
    School fairs

With school carnivals and fundraisers at the end of the year, there are great opportunities to support local grads and revisit fun childhood memories! Look out for posters around your neighborhood/coffee shops to see what events local schools are hosting.

I hope this post gave you some inspiration for things to do and places to visit in Vancouver. If you ever go to any of these places, I’d love to connect with you and hear about your experience!

Keiko’s Japanese treat to the people of Guwahati

With Guwahati sprawling through the magical loops of nightlife, numerous establishments are adding to the growing competition. Chic parties, groovy music, and bustling eateries are adorning the city with their hip elements. One of such electric and happening place is the Keiko Ultra Lounge, a Japanese themed restaurant cum pub in Guwahati that is brimmed with surprises for its visitors.

    Keiko japanese restaurant in guwahati

For someone looking out to snuggle cozy moments with oneself or with a partner without much hustle and shrilling music, Keiko is the place to be. It’s not much hassle finding this pub for it is situated on the busy road of Christian Basti’s Kamakhya Towers, near Sohum Shoppe.

Let me take you inside the lounge

    Glimpse from the entrance

As I walked in, a beautiful smile greeted me to the large lounge arranged in an elegant fashion. There were tall-large-short-comfy-loungy sitting arrangements spread across the area. Added, the industrial decor complimented the overall theme of the restaurant.

As you approach, the smart balance of urban, psychedelic, and rustic ambiance will join to thrill you; and gradually cuddle you as you take your seat. Embraced by a mellow vibe, this is also an absolute place for all kinds of get-togethers, corporate dinners, or family occasions.

    From the menu

The aroma of the herbs and spices paving its way from the kitchen is tempting enough to elevate one’s mood

An array of choices- starters, soups, curry bowls, desserts, and quick-eats are arranged on the menu. However, for a Japanese food lover, Keiko has an assortment of succulent meals to devour. Ho wang tong soup, barbeque bao dimsum, tekka maki sushi, golden fried veg wasabi are few of the delectable picks among others. Besides, the pizza, pasta, and the sandwich section too hold a thick spread of fresh ingredients.

    Keiko Japanese restaurant in Guwahati

Another noteworthy section of the menu is the Bento Box and the Hot Pot. While Bento Box offers an “only delivery” option, Hot Pot makes the visitors cook its own food in the restaurant. The concept of Bento Box addresses the Japanese’s way of carrying a lunch box to the workplace that mostly consists of healthy meals. On the other hand, the Hot Pot part allows guests to choose its add-ons which are then put on the broth and placed on an induction. This is a popular eating habit across restaurants in Asia and Keiko is the first restaurant in Guwahati to adopt this culture.

    Why you should consider Keiko

I have my own reasons to call this place amazing; for it gives me a café-like daze, a fine-dine restaurant, a loungy place with friends, and a go-gaga with food and drinks pub. If you want to experience food, music, and ambiance in one place, then Keiko should mark your list first.

    Keiko japanese restaurant in guwahati

This is undoubtedly the only pub in the city where I can rely on great music, sumptuous food, and warm hospitality. Drooling over the munchies to shaking a leg to the cherry acoustic, this space has so much to offer.

Well, these are my reasons to label this place amazingly-interesting. Let me know what are your favorites about Keiko in the comments below.

How Saliva Prevents Dental Diseases | Guest Post

Think spit is just spat? Think again. Saliva is vital in helping prevent gum disease and in keeping your digestive system running smoothly. It cleanses the mouth, protects your teeth, and helps keep your gums healthy.

    Composition and Production:

Your body is continuously producing a steady stream of saliva. But what is it, and why do our mouths produce more at different times?

Saliva is 99% water. The other 1% of saliva is proteins and electrolytes. However, even though they only make up 1% of saliva, these proteins and electrolytes perform powerful functions in your mouth.

Saliva production is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. This system also controls your breathing, heart rate, digestion, body temperature, sexual response, and metabolism, as well as sweat and tears production. As far as saliva production is concerned, there are three main glands primarily responsible: the submandibular, parotid, and sublingual glands.

Your autonomic nervous system communicates with the various parts of itself. For instance, if you smell an incredibly wonderful food, taste food, are stimulated by medication, or simply perform a chewing motion, your autonomic system amps up the production of saliva.

    Key Functions of Saliva:

Saliva performs a few primary functions that make life–and especially eating and digestion–operate more smoothly than they would otherwise.

First, saliva facilitates speaking and eating. It lubricates oral tissues so your tongue, teeth, and roof of your mouth can work together smoothly to create sounds. It aids in the process of eating by enhancing the taste of food, helping you break down food in your mouth, and facilitating chewing.

Without saliva, swallowing and clearing or rinsing food from the side of your mouth would be far more difficult. The enzymes in the protein in saliva help break down food and prepare it for digestion. In short, saliva helps you throughout every phase of the eating process.

Saliva also helps protect your mouth and surrounding tissues. It dilutes the sugars in food and drinks, neutralizes acids to prevent plaque production, and remineralize your teeth enamel. All these functions help to prevent plaque and tartar damage.

Additionally, saliva has cleansing and antimicrobial properties, continually working to help keep you healthy and free of disease. Lastly, it also helps to repair tissue in instances of mouth injuries or cuts.

    How Saliva Benefits Your Teeth:

With all of this in mind, here are five of the main ways saliva benefits your teeth.

    • Waste removal

      • Saliva acts as a rinsing and cleansing agent for teeth, helping your mouth wipe away food debris, yeast, fungi, bacteria, and viruses. As such, it helps to prevent a variety of medical and dental issues.
    • Protective barrier

      • Saliva shields the esophagus and digestive tract from harmful irritants, as well as shielding your teeth from the sugars and acids in many of our foods and beverages. Its enzymes help neutralize acids that would otherwise damage your teeth and gums.
    • Tooth decay prevention

      • Not only does saliva neutralize acids that would otherwise contribute to tooth decay, but it also literally washes those sugars and acids away from the teeth. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t brush your teeth–it means that your saliva is working hard and deserves all the help you give it so that you can avoid restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedures.
      • Additionally, saliva remineralizes the enamel on your teeth. After you eat, the enamel on your teeth takes a beating from sugars and acids. Afterward, however, calcium and phosphate ions in saliva remineralize your enamel.
      • This is why it’s essential to brush your teeth after eating, and especially before you go to sleep: it clears any debris out of the way so your saliva can repair your tooth enamel without impediment.
    • Healthy plaque

      • While too much plaque is bad, plaque in and of itself serves an important function. Saliva coats the tooth with one of its proteins, pellicle, which then accumulates to form plaque. This plaque attracts bacteria and other agents, forcing them to form clumps which are then more easily swallowed or brushed away.
    • Wound healing

      • Saliva is packed with proteins, electrolytes, endothelial and epidermal growth factors, making it a live-in medicine for your mouth. If the inside of your mouth sustains a wound–a cut, a canker sore, or if you bite your lip–then saliva helps to facilitate the healing process.

With all these healing and protective properties, saliva is a huge player in preventing tooth decay and any resulting gum disease.

Saliva’s the unsung hero of your dental and digestive health, working to prevent gum disease and tooth decay at every step. As an intelligent servant of the autonomic nervous system, it’s your mouth’s way of protecting itself and facilitating healing. Practice good oral hygiene so you can help your saliva do its job.

Is The Fashion Industry of Assam Losing Its Glory?

The fashion industry of Assam, compared to the past decade, has cultivated quite a positive ground in Assam. Numerous fashion personnel, whether they are designers, models, or consultants, have made a mark in the international scenario. Fashion designer like Sanjukta Dutta flaunted her creations at the Cannes Film Festival this year while models like Monikangana Dutta landed for numerous international brands, commercials, and magazines.

During the 1990s or early 2000s, there were a handful of models, about 15 to 20, who had to buckle down societal prejudices, redundant stigma, and all other odds to acclaim themselves as a model or land themselves in a music video, or a movie. The scenario has evolved with time.

Raaz Matazzo, the first fashion show of Assam, curated by Vikram Rai Medhi in 1994 was one of its kind that Guwahati witnessed. The show presented models like Miland Soman, Shyla Lopez, Shamolee Verma, Rohit Roy, among several others.

Poor pageants and shows affecting the industry

But amid this prosperity, it is not quite easy to build oneself in this industry, especially when the invasion of substandard beauty pageants and fashion shows have deteriorated the industry. Iconic magazine pages, a circle of followers, a glamorous lifestyle, and a glaring Instagram profile packed with glitzy party photographs tempt numerous young minds to pursue a career in the fashion industry. But beyond this glitziness, is the glamor industry of Guwahati smooth enough for a person seeking a career option here?

“In Assam, the fashion industry did not win much attention a decade back or two, albeit it was in the course of progression. The ones who surpassed that phase to reach this industry were strong models who know their work and its value. But now, there’s a beauty pageant or a fashion show almost every alternate day. Everyone is a model. This, unfortunately, bemused the industry. People began questioning the credibility of the people of this industry,” retorted Medhi, a senior fashion curator.

In another instance, an established model (anonymous) narrated, “The modeling ecosystem is turning faulty every day. Most newcomer models pay the organizers to walk the ramp and nobody seems to be complaining.”

A career in modeling is observed as a selection of class, elegance, and excellence. Seemingly, people now looked down upon the same as a “clouded choice.”

“When the supply increases, demand drops. Similar is the situation here in this industry. Without proper eligibility or grooming, anyone and everyone have become a model and a pageant organizer these days. There should be a proper forum or an association to look into these things and safeguard the respect and identity of the ones who have been working hard for ages to build a name or help the industry grow in the true sense of the term ,” added Stuti Choudhury, former Miss North East, anchor, and an actor.

How does the payment aspect affect models’ growth

Compared to the tier I cities like Delhi or Mumbai where an established model gets up to Rs. 60,000/- per show, the payment here is mediocre. And oftentimes, it becomes difficult for an aspiring model to depend only on shows and assignments for their daily bread.

Whatsoever, Mr. Medhi further added that despite this imbalance, models who are confident, well groomed, and gained healthy knowledge about their profession are celebrating their career with apposite assignments and payments.

It may not be much of an arduous task for models with a good academic graph and communication skill to place themselves. But for the inefficient and untrained ones, it is equally challenging as well as distressing to survive in this industry.

Retaining the lost glory with appropriate measures

The people representing this industry should carry out strict scrutiny and measures of its members and representatives. While the fashion industry is evolving with several new faces, original ideas, fresh paths, offering vivid horizons to the generations, it is equally important to set certain limitations and standards to retain its glory.

Fashion and style exist in the DNA of northeastern people. However, people need to be practical, have knowledge about the profession and industry they are representing. If placed on the right track, this industry can create a revolution in India.
